THE CHINE RAIL
|
|
I have been shaping concaves since 1970, and from the start I was hooked on the speed that they produce, though they do have some inherent problems, they can suck onto the wave face at high speed, and have a tendency to catch rails. I started working with a chine rail in the early 80's, to make a concave "user friendly", and found that they work very well. It's a very simple design, basically the apex of the rail is raised off the bottom of the board, much the same as the 50/50 rail, but with no loss of speed (speed, in my view is the essence of a good board, short or long) With the chine running almost to the tail, the board will come up on it's rail very easily, much like a "V" but again with no loss of speed. My designs incorporate concaves, either single or double, put them with the chine rail and they produce a board that is fast - responsive - loose and forgiving. The Chine rail has been the missing link for me!
